Àlvar started his career playing piano until he discovered his main instrument, the trumpet at the age of 16. Then he studied trumpet with Matthew Simon and he finished with an honor mention in Superior level in Jazz trumpet at the Liceo Conservatory with David Mengual, Julián Sánchez, Víctor de Diego and Sergi Vergés as his teachers.
His studies as musician and instrumentalist kept developing with seminaries in Valencia, Cádiz and Begues, and academic stays abroad in New York and Cuba.
He has recently completed his studies at the Curitiba and Rio de Janeiro Music Office.
Àlvar has also combined his music training with a Political Science Degree he has acquired.
Nowadays, besides his collaboration in different projects as a freelancer, Àlvar leads a jazz quintet with a Mengual Free Spirits Big Band style; plays in the gafieira Gafieira Miúda samba band; and in the Nico Martin Group flamenco-jazz band.
Throughout his career he has played with various mestiza music bands like Muyayo Rif, Radio Raheem, jaimaican style bands like Soweto, Blackstarliners featuring Ken Boothe, and Street bands such as como Brassville Walkers, Barne Batuque and Funky a l’Oll.
With all these bands he has performed in Catalunya, Spain, France, Portugal, Switzerland, Belgium, The Netherlands and Brazil.
He has made studio recordings with David Mengual Free Spirits Big Band, Nico Martin Group, Gafieira Miúda, Tremendament, Muyayo Rif, Radio Raheem, Tirant lo Funk and Gran Combo from Barcelona among others.
